Donald DeWitt, a 65-year-old teacher from Warwick, has been charged with attempted sexual assault of a 16-year-old student, according to the Times Herald Record.

DeWitt, who teaches at Bergen County Academies in N.J., was arrested Monday and charged with attempted sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal sexual contact, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

The alleged victim is a 16-year-old female student at Bergen County Academies, where DeWitt teaches.

According to the prosecutor's office, the investigation began after the sister of the girl found sexually explicit emails between Dewitt and the victim. The sister informed their mother, who contacted police. The Times Herald Record says that the arrest followed an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office's Special Victims Unit and Computer Crimes Unit.

Dewitt was arraigned Tuesday and sent to Bergen County Jail in lieu of $300,000 bail. He has been ordered to have no contact with the victim.
