Police: Drunk Hudson Valley Man Rests on Road, Hit by Car

A Hudson Valley man is recovering from a broken leg after he allegedly decided to lay down in the middle of the road, drunk, and was hit by a car.

On Saturday around 11:30 p.m., Saugerties police responded to a 911 for reports of a person who was hit by a car on Route 212 in the Town of Saugerties.

Mitchell Vinicor, 67, of Bearsville was traveling west on Route 212 when he ran over Koeppen’s leg, breaking it, police say.

Responding officers allege that 25-year-old Anthony Koeppen of Saugerties was drunk and lying in the road when he was struck by an oncoming car.

Several witnesses observed Koeppen lying in the middle of the road at the time of the accident, police say.

According to Saugerties police, Koeppen told officers that he was tired and decided to lay down to rest for a while before going home.

Koeppen was treated at the scene by paramedics and then taken to Kingston Hospital. He was charged with disorderly conduct.
