Police are investigating a fatal two-car crash that occurred Tuesday morning in Orange County. 

At approximately 8:32 a.m. a town of Crawford police officer attempted to stop a vehicle traveling east on State Route 17K for a violation of the vehicle and traffic law.

The suspect's car failed to comply with the traffic stop and fled from the officer into the Town of Montgomery.

The suspect's vehicle appeared to lose control while rounding a curve in the roadway, entered in the westbound lane and struck an oncoming car.

The operator of the suspect's vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The operator of the westbound car was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center with injuries to his neck and legs.

The Town of Crawford police officer was not involved in the collision.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the State Police are asking anyone with information to please contact the Montgomery barracks at 845-457-1388.
