A Red Hook man allegedly had a blood alcohol content over four times the legal limit when his 2000 Ford pickup crashed into an embankment and caught fire. The crash happened near an apartment complex last Friday.

65 year-old John H. Wollerton was charged with aggravated drunken driving and two counts of drunken driving, all misdemeanors, said police. Red Hook police arrived to find Wollerton's pickup engulfed in flames. The fire had also spread to the brush and trees surrounding near the crash. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.

Police say the driver was found to be "highly intoxicated at the time of the incident and interview," The Daily Freeman reports that Wollerton submitted to a breath test and allegedly had a blood alcohol content of .34 percent. The charge is elevated to aggravated DWI when the blood alcohol content is 0.18 percent.
