Police: Man Attempted Two Armed Robberies at Poughkeepsie Diner

Police say one man is responsible for two attempted armed robberies at a Poughkeepsie diner.

Town of Poughkeepsie Police responded to a report for an attempted armed robbery at the Acropolis Diner at 829 Main Street.

Responding officers determined that there were actually two separate armed robberies at the diner.

Police say, 55-year-old Anthony Vero, of Poughkeepsie attempted to rob a diner employee of money from the cash register. When he was unsuccessful he allegedly attempted to rob a female patron that was entering the diner.

Vero was chased away by the diner employee he first attempted to rob. The suspect threatened the use of a weapon but never displayed one during any incident, officials say.

Following an investigation Vero was identified as the suspect and arrested. He was charged with 2 counts of 3rd-degree attempted robbery, class E felonies.

Vero is currently under parole supervision for a prior Town of Poughkeepsie robbery conviction in 2008.

Vero was remanded to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of no bail. He is due in Town of Poughkeepsie Court on May 4.
