Thought this was a nice story for Thanksgiving. A good example of the little guy standing up and actually winning a round against big corporate greed.

You may have heard of Tony Rohr. He was the manager of a Pizza Hut in Elkhart, IN who refused to open his store and force his employees to work Thanksgiving Day. A ten year employee of the company, Rohr was subsequently told by Pizza Hut corporate to hand in his resignation for refusing open store doors.  He refused, and instead wrote this...

“I accept that the refusal to comply with this greedy, immoral request means the end of my tenure with this company,” he says he wrote. “I hope you realize that it is the people at the bottom of the totem pole that make your life possible.”

He was fired. The story broke to local TV affiliates, and then soon the internet. That set off a huge backlash especially on social media. Pizza Hut has since apologized and offered Rohr is job back with the company.  Good that this guy stood his ground and refused to cave.

Pizza Hut's response.

“We fully respect an employee’s right to not work on a holiday, which is why the vast majority of Pizza Huts in America are closed on Thanksgiving,” the corporate office said in a statement. “As a result, we strongly recommended that the local franchisee reinstate the store manager and they have agreed. We look forward to them welcoming Tony back to the team.”
