A Pennsylvania man was helping decorate his mother-in-law's tombstone, when it toppled over, pinning him underneath and killing him.

Stephen Woytack, 74, of Scranton and his wife were decorating the tombstone ahead of the Easter holiday. He was kneeling next to the grave, while his wife tied a cross on the other-side, when the 400-pound tombstone toppled without warning, as reported by the New York Post.

The man's wife ran and got the caretaker of the cemetery, Edward Kubilas, who said:

By the time I got there, he was not too good. I got half the stone off him. It must have been adrenaline. It’s a tragic thing. There’s nothing you could do.

Police and an ambulance arrived almost immediately, and helped wrestle the 4-foot by 4-foot stone off the man, but it was too late to save him.

The couple visited the cemetery many times per year to decorate.
