A 15-year old and his grandfather were killed in an apartment fire, caused by a carelessly strewn marijuana pipe that the older man had been smoking.

The boy was visiting his 69-year old grandfather, who is a disabled Vietnam veteran. Fire crews responded to automatic alarms, from the apartment building. Despite efforts, both Sheldon Bare, and his visiting grandson died at the hospital, as reported by the NY Post.

The marijuana pipe was found near the living room couch, which was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Police believe that man was smoking there. The deaths are ruled accidental, but the autopsy reports have yet to be released.

According to family members, Bare was  completely disabled from post-traumatic stress.
