An Orange County teen was arrested twice in the same day in the Hudson Valley.

On Monday around 8:45 p.m., members of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, stopped a driver for allegedly speeding on Route 9D in the Town of Philipstown.

Upon approach, the deputy noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle and observed evidence of marijuana use inside the car, police say.

An investigation revealed that the driver, 18-year Kyle B. Hetman, of Fort Montgomery, was allegedly in possession of marijuana.

Hertman was charged him with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. He was processed at the scene and released pending future court date.

Just a few hours later, Hetman made a report to the sheriff’s office concerning a burglary in progress at a home in the Town of Philipstown.

Hetman said that while watching a friend’s home, he encountered a man inside the residence. He told police the man assaulted him in the home and fled into surrounding woods, officials say.

Due to the report, many area law enforcement agencies, including the PCSD, New York State Police, Village of Cold Spring Police Department, MTA Police and Westchester County Police responded to the area.

Police K-9 units and a police helicopter were dispatched to the scene in an attempt to locate the alleged suspect. However, no one was found, authorties say.

At the request of investigators, Hetman drove himself to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office for questioning. There, he allegedly admitted to making the story up.

Hetman was charged with falsely reporting an incident and making a false punishable written statement, misdemeanors.

Hetman was released on his own recognizance pending a Dec. 13 appearance in the Town of Carmel Justice Court.
