If you text while driving or pass a stopped school bus, then you might being paying a steep fine. According to the Times Herald Record, the Orange County Sheriff's Office will take part in National Distracted Driving Awareness Month as well as Operation Safe Stop.

The distracted-driving campaign will target texting behind the wheel. It is part of the "U Drive. U Text. U Pay."  Campaign that will run from April 10 to 15.

For Operation Safe Stop on April 16, sheriff's cars will follow school buses on their routes and ticket any motorist who passes a school bus that has it's lights flashing.

The offense carries a penalty of five points on one's license, fines of $250 to $400 for a first offense and up to 30 days in jail.
