Orange County Man In Possession of Drugs Fights With Cops, Police say
An Orange County man fought the law, the law won.
On Tuesday, Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation on East Main Street in the Town of Wallkill. During the stop deputies allegedly detected the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
During a search of the car, police say they found a small bag of weed and a small bag of narcotics. A passenger in the vehicle, 35-year-old Erik Duggan, of Middletown, is accused of grabbing the bags of drugs and fleeing police.
When authorities caught up with Duggan, at a nearby parking lot, Duggan allegedly started to fight with the officers.
Duggan was charged with assault and tampering, felonies, as well as resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, obstruction of a governmental administration and unlawful possession of marijuana, misdemeanors.
Duggan was arraigned in Crawford Town Court and remanded to the Jail on $15,000 cash bail or a $45,000 bond alternative.
One of the deputies was treated and released at Orange Regional Medical Center for injuries sustained during the arrest.
The driver of the vehicle was issued a traffic ticket and released.
New York State Police and the Town of Wallkill Police assisted at the scene.
