2 Orange County Police officers were sent to the hospital and another was injured during a struggle with a suspect.

According to Washingtonville Police, two plain clothed officers were conducting a surveillance detail in the area of Mays Field when they spotted several people in the park after dusk and watched them go into the woods.

While waiting for them to return to the park, a uniformed officer was called to make the contact with the subjects. Two returned to the park from the woods and were approached by the 3 police officers, one uniformed and the others in plain clothes.

Police say Eric Wist, of Hamptonburgh fled. The other person stayed. Wist was caught after a short foot chase and fight with police. All three officers suffered minor injuries, two who were treated and released from St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital.

Wist was charged with assault, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and trespassing. He was also charged with criminal mischief for damaging the vehicle of a motorist who stopped to assist police.

Wist was remanded to Orange County Jail on $3,000 cash bail. He is due to return to Village Court August 10.
