Police and first-responders from Orange County are credited with saving the lives of two people.

On July 11, Port Jervis Police Sgt. Kara Angeloni and Officers Robert Card, PO Richard Santini, PO Patrick Kerr and PO Kyle Mitchell were dispatched to a domestic. During the investigating a 51-year-old female, who was at the scene, but not involved, began suffering from an apparent heart attack. She soon become unresponsive

Officers provided immediate medical attention an administered an automated external defibrillator and oxygen to victim. EMT’s from Port Jervis Ambulance arrived and continued with CPR and Chest Compressions until the woman regained consciousness. The victim was transported to Bon Secours Hospital where she recovered.

On July 21, 2016, Officer Andrew Haniuk responded to the Port Jervis/Matamoras Delaware River Bridge after receiving reports that an unhappy mane was sitting on the bridge with his leg over the railing.

Officer Haniuk found the man, who was visibly upset, sitting with both legs over the railing and leaning forward looking down towards the river.

The officer began talking with the man who said he wanted to end his life by jumping off the bridge.

Eventually, Officer Haniuk convinced him to move from the railing and allow the officer to help him. The man was taken into protective custody without further incident and transported him to Bon Secours Community Hospital for an evaluation.
