An Orange County Corrections Officer was allegedly assaulted an injured by a man who was being booked into jail.

On Wednesday, while being booked into Orange County Jail on a burglary charge, 45-year-old Joseph James, of Montgomery started a fight with a corrections officers, officials say.

James allegedly grabbed an unnamed officer by the throat and started choking him. As the struggle continued, other officers assisted in restraining and place James in handcuffs.

The officer who was assaulted by James was treated and released at Orange Regional Medical Center for cuts and abrasions to his throat area.

James was charged with assault, a felony, criminal obstruction of breathing, and obstruction of governmental administration. He was and remanded back to the Orange County Jail on $50,000 cash or $100,000 bail bond.
