A disabled Marine Corps veteran has a safer, warmer home thanks to the staff and volunteers of Rebuilding Together Dutchess County.

The Hudson Valley veteran served during the Vietnam War and continued helping others after his service ended, playing an active role with his local American Legion and assisting other veterans without asking for anything in return.

Each year Rebuilding Together chapters across the country hold a National Rebuilding Day to call attention to the needs of low-income homeowners in their local communities. Volunteers worked on the Marine veteran's home as part of 2013's National Rebuilding Day. The Rebuilding Together Dutchess County crew replaced windows in the home, making it less drafty and more energy efficient. They also installed new floors to reduce tripping hazards and make the home safer.

Rebuilding Together Dutchess County wants to help other military personnel in need and is currently seeking nominations.
