Police are asking for help in finding out who scrawled obscenities on a brand new playground.

The City of Cortland Police Department is looking for the person or persons who defaced a new playground. Just one week old, the playground was targeted by vandals who apparently painted explicit pictures and words on the equipment.

In a Facebook post the Cortland Youth Bureau urged residents to report suspicious activity and warned that those who are responsible for vandalizing the City parks will be "prosecuted to the fullest extent."

Reaction from residents ranged from sadness to anger. Kathy Oliver posted on the City of Cortland Police Department's Facebook, saying "So sad. Get something new and decent, then deface it. Hope they catch them."

Denise Daniels wrote, "My granddaughter was so excited for this to open,at 2 she can't read, but what a same they live right across from this park, the park wasn't even a week old when some creep did this, my daughter and granddaughter saw it there 1 day after the equipment was finished!! Let me tell you I hope they catch this creep!! She is so Happy playing there"

If anyone has any information about who may be responsible for the graffiti, they're asked to contact the City of Cortland PD.
