A terrible tragedy unfolded in Western New York on Monday.

NY State Troopers say they were called to the home of an Attica man named Douglas Mess on Monday. The son of the 52-year-old man became concerned when his father didn't go to work and hadn't been seen since the day before. Police launched an air and ground search and found Mess's body under a giant pile of manure behind his farm, according to the Times Herald Record.

Authorities are saying that Mess had been killed by his wife, Charlene Mess. Charlene Mess was charged with murder and is being held in Wyoming County Jail, according to police. A motive for the murder is unknown. The couple had been married for 30 years.
