Trooper Christopher G Skinner was struck and killed instantly by a motorist on northbound I-81 near Chenango and Castle Creek today, according to New York State Police. Trooper Skinner was conducting a routine traffic stop off of Exit 6, around noon today, when he was struck by another motorist. The driver fled the scene, and abandoned his vehicle, which prompted a manhunt of the area. The driver was arrested and is now in custody.

Trooper Skinner was 42 years old and a 13 year veteran of the New York State Police. He leaves behind two children.

 UPDATE: The driver of the vehicle has been identified as 60 year old Almond Upton. Upton allegedly intentionally struck and killed Trooper Skinner, and was later apprehended in the surrounding woods.
