Starting today, Friday October 28th the New York State Police will increase patrols to crackdown on underage drinking and drunk driving. You can expect a number of sobriety checkpoints and underage drinking, as well as sales to minors, task forces out this weekend. The effort will continue through November 1st.

During Halloween weekend last year, there were 730 crashes, injuring 126 people and killing three others. There were also 167 people arrested for DWI according to the  National HighwayTraffic Safety Administration worldwide report.

Superintendent George P. Beach II said in a press release "Halloween is a weekend of fun, but can also be a lesson in responsibility on New York’s roadways. We urge drivers to be smart and make the right choice to not drink and drive."

The troopers will be out in full force this weekend making sure our roads and in turn our lives are safe. So if you are going out this weekend to enjoy the Halloween festivities, please be responsible. If you're drinking find a designated driver or call a cab.

Happy Halloween, be safe!
