New York State is home to a shocking amount of organizations that classified as hate groups.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has created an interactive map that shows the locations of over 780 active hate groups in the United States. If you think these groups are primarily located in Southern or rural states, you're in for a surprise.

California is number one on the list with 57 hate groups. From skinheads to Holocaust deniers, California seems to have all areas of hatred covered. While there is no official Klu-Klux-Klan chapterin California, there are an abundance of neo-nazi and white supremacists groups scattered all over the state.

Second to California is Florida with 50 recognized groups. New York is close behind at 3rd place with 44 listed organizations. The closest hate organizations to the Hudson Valley are in the Albany area, where the black separatist group, Black Riders Liberation Party has a chapter. Nearby, the Klu-Klux-Klan is still very active in Altamont, NY. More than half of the hate groups in the state have their headquarters in the New York City area.

Surrounding states aren't much better than New York, with 40 New Jersey groups claiming to have an agenda of hate. 38 similar groups are set up in Pennsylvania. The most peace-loving states seem to be Hawaii and Alaska, with no organized hate groups at all. Wyoming only has one, Maine and Iowa both have two, and Connecticut is home to just three hate groups.
