Bedbugs are a problem, especially in this part of the country. This, however, is simply not the way to dispose of the pests. Scott Kemery suffered first and second-degree burns after setting his rental car on fire while trying to kill bedbugs that were inside the vehicle.

Police say the Bridgehampton man poured alcohol over the insects, then sat in the car and lit a cigarette, setting off the blaze in a parking lot. Kemery fled the vehicle on his own though a line of cars went up in flames in the Long Island parking lot. Detective Sgt. Edward Fitzgerald told Newsday that Kemery heard that if he saturated the bedbugs with alcohol it would kill them. The 44 year-old man was airlifted from the King Kullen shopping center to Stony Brook University
