With the Obama administration and other world leaders focusing on the growing threat of ISIS/ISIL in the Middle East (and even threats on an ISIS message board towards Times Square), news like this hits a little too close to home. Mufid Elfgeeh...a 30 year old food store owner living in Rochester, was indicted for allegedly planning to help fund and recruit for the Islamic State, as well as planning the murders of both current and former members of the US military, and Shiia Muslims.

From the NY Times

A Rochester man was indicted Tuesday on charges that he tried to provide material support to the Islamic State by helping three men who said they would travel to Syria to “engage in violent jihad” alongside the group’s militants, according to the Justice Department.

The man, Mufid A. Elfgeeh, 30, was also charged with the attempted murder of current and former members of the United States military, including some who had returned from Iraq, and possession of firearms equipped with silencers, the Justice Department said.

According to the Justice Department, Elfgeeh was arrested in May in Rochester as part of a sting operation. Elfgeeh allegeldy tried to recruit three men to go with him to Syria to join the fight for ISIL. As it turns out, two of the three men were cooperating with federal authorities.  READ MORE HERE
