In what is being called a landmark ruling, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Matthew Cooper is allowing a Brooklyn woman named Ellanora Baidoo to serve her absent husband with divorce papers through a simple Facebook message.

According to the NY Daily News, the 26 year-old Baidoo is granted "permission serve defendant with the divorce summons using a private message through Facebook,” with Baidoo's lawyer messaging the husband through her FB account.

Baidoo married Victor Sena Blood-Dzraku in 2009. Their relationship quickly went south as Blood-Dzraku backed out on his promise to have a traditional Ghanaian wedding ceremony. Justice Cooper said that the wedding was never consummated and the husband and wife never lived together, though Blood-Dzraku reportedly still doesn’t want a divorce.

According to Cooper, Blood-Drazku vacated his apartment in 2011, and that he has told Baidoo over the phone that he has no fixed address and no place of employment. He has also refused to make himself available to be served with divorce papers. Cooper goes on to say that the post office has no forwarding address for him, there is no billing address linked to his prepaid cell phone, and the Department of Motor Vehicles has no record of him.
