A teenager from Newburgh will likely serve years in prison after he was found guilty of threatening a man with a gun and more.

On Wednesday, an Orange County jury found 17-year-old Ulee Johnson guilty of attempted criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, tampering with physical evidence and menacing.

According to the prosecution, Johnson threatened a man in the City of Newburgh with a revolver on Oct. 24, 2015. Officials said Johnson thought the gun was loaded but the ammunition in the gun was defective.

When police arrived on the scene, Johnson fled and concealed the revolver. Police later recovered the weapon.

“The evidence in this case clearly supported the jury’s determination that this defendant possessed a gun believing that it would work with the ammunition in it when he menaced his victim,” said Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler in a statement. “It is extremely fortunate that no one was injured in this incident.”

Johnson was remanded without bail to Orange County Jail. He faces a maximum of 7 years in prison for the weapon charge and 1 to 4 years for the tampering charge.

Johnson is scheduled to be sentenced on June 8.
