The City of Newburgh is getting a new baseball team. Newburgh’s City Council approved on Monday to an agreement allowing the six-team East Coast Baseball League to use Delano-Hitch Stadium this summer for the hometown Newburgh Newts.

The East Coast Baseball League is the newest independent professional baseball league in North America.

The league is looking to have 4 teams with a 48-60 game schedule. Playoffs will see 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 in the the semi-finals, with the two winners advancing to the ECBL Championship

Along with the Newburgh Newts, the East Coast Baseball League has teams based in Niagara and Watertown in New York; Waterloo, Ontario, and Old Orchard, Maine. The league is looking to award it's sixth team in Johnstown, PA.

Accordinf to the Times Herald Record, Newburgh’s agreement calls for the league to pay $500 per game for 30 games.
