George Steinbrenner passed away in 2010, but his generosity carries on. Rafael Ramos was one of the New York police officers brutally murdered on Saturday. Ramos had 2 children, and Yahoo News reports that the Yankees Silver Sheild Foundation will help pay for the education of both kids. The other officer killed, Wenjian didn't have any children or the foundation would have helped there too.

Steinbrenner started his foundation in 1982 after seeing a news account of four children flanking their mother and folding an American flag at the funeral of their father, an NYPD officer who had been killed in the line of duty.

Whether or not you're a Yankees fan, you have to support this classy move. Not only does the foundation pay for education costs for fallen police officers, but fireman as well. That also includes more than 700 kids who lost parents in the 9/11 tragedy.

Here's more on the role of the Silver Shield Foundation:

The Silver Shield Foundation sets aside an education fund for each surviving child of police officers and firefighters. A diverse and flexible program aimed at meeting a family's specific needs, it helps with tuition payments for prep school, college and university undergraduate and graduate school, and vocational and technical school.

Thank you George Steinbrenner.
