Thruway Closed to Non-Essential Vehicles at 11PM [UPDATED]

UPDATE, 5:32PM: Gov. Cuomo's office announced travel will be restricted for non-essential vehicles in counties effected by the blizzard at 11PM.

CORRECTION, 1:43PM: NBC News is currently the only outlet that has reported the Thruway closure. Gov. Cuomo's office says a decision won't be made until 4PM.

State transportation officials have announced that the New York State Thruway and all other state controlled highways in the state will be closed tonight as of 10PM, according to an NBC New York reporter's tweet.

However, the governor's office has since said a final decision on closing the Thruway to all traffic at 11PM will be made by 4PM. Tractor trailers are banned on the Thruway by 4PM.

NBC New York also reports Governor Cuomo has urged all New Yorkers to leave the office early Monday afternoon or to work from home.

Metro North has added additional trains from 1-5pm Monday afternoon to help commuters get where they need to go. Service could be suspended Tuesday depending on weather conditions. Amtrak is still on a regular schedule.

Hundreds of flights into and out of local airports have also been cancelled as they are expecting this to be one of the larger storms the northeast has seen in the past few years.
