Let's party! New York has made the list of the top 10 party states in America.

The list, compiled by Retale.com, places the Empire State at number three in the country when it comes to partying. New York's ranking is based on a number of factors including having the most music festivals in America and the most bars per-capita. Syracuse being listed as the number one party school in the country also helps out a bit.

New York City's party scene and the party atmosphere of Woodstock were also specifically mentioned as reason for New York being in the top three. Retale.com says that their rankings are based on a number of factors including

  • Alcohol consumption per capita
  • Number of nightclubs per capita
  • Number of music festivals in each state
  • Most popular tourist destinations
  • Number of bars per capita
  • Population density
  • Last call: opening and closing hours
  • Number of universities and colleges per capita
  • Combined alcohol taxes (lower the better)
  • Median age (lower the better)

Above New York, Nevada was listed at number two, which is no surprise to anyone who has ever visited Las Vegas, which is one 24-hour party every day of the year. The number one party state, however, is California. Great weather, festivals, the most bars per capita second to New York and the amount of college students makes the Golden State the ultimate party capitol of the country.

Rounding out the top 10 are Illinois, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Arizona and Wisconsin.

Do you agree with the list? How much partying to you think New York really does compared to the rest of the country?
