New York has created a new program to get new campers outside.

First-time campers are being offered free camping weekends at 13 New York State Parks, according to New York Upstate. This program will be going on throughout the summer in the state.

According to the article, new campers will be provided with all the necessary gear. A family sized tent, lantern, firewood, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, camping chairs, and a camping stove will all be provided. When they arrive, they will even be greeted by a camping ambassador, who will help them set up their campsite.

As always, with everything free, there is a small catch. This program is only available to first-time campers. Campers must be New York residents. Reservations are required and applications must be completed soon. A lottery system will be used to fill the slots. One more thing, you have through next Sunday, May 20, to complete an application.
