All signs point to the Hudson Valley brewery scene adding a new venue in the coming months if all continues to go according to plan. A Woodstock man is set to begin brewing with a business partner after purchasing property in Ulster County. Rick Shobin and Scott Shimomura have agreed to buy what is now the Scandanavian Grace Furniture and Coffee Shop on Route 28 in Shokan.

Catskill Eats reports Shobin and Shimomura, who will be head brewer, plan to build a 15-barrel system and hope to eventually ramp up to 3,000 barrels a year. The building itself is a former car garage with a lot of potential.

This whole thing came about when Shobin, a former wall street  executive, decided he'd had enough of corporate life on Wall Street. Brewing beer was a passion, and after tasting numerous others, decided the beer he was producing was better than the others. For now they are calling the brand, Shokan Brewing, Co. but that could change at anytime.
