New Belgium Brewing in Fort Collins has now officially made their beers available to New Yorkers, including the iconic amber ale, Fat Tire.

New Belgium brewer, Geoff Wenzel, helped us celebrate this morning by cracking open the very first Fat Tires available in New York State while educating us about the brewery's history. New Belgium Brewery started up in Fort Collins, Colorado back in 2001 when craft beer was just starting to gain attention. Since then, the brewery has developed a reputation for brewing world class beers using recipes based on classic Belgian ales.

The brewery is employee owned, and as Wenzel explained, everyone who works for New Belgium for one year gets a bike and begins to accrue ownership shares in the company. Wenzel says this instills a feeling of pride where everyone working at the brewery follows the motto "think like an owner."

New Belgium's flagship beer, Fat Tire, is a favorite for many, and Wenzel tells us what makes it so special:

Besides Fat Tire, New Belgium will also be rolling out Ranger IPA, Citradelic IPA, Rampant Imperial IPA and their summer seasonal offering, Heavy Melon Watermelon Lime Ale. According to a press release the brewery also plans to start distributing Slow Ride Session IPA, 1554 Black Lager and Lips of Faith in August.

You can sample some of Fat Tires most sought after beers at the Beer, Bourbon and Bacon festival which will take place at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds on June 20.
