After surveying the area, the National Weather Service out of Albany said that the wind damage in the Town of Gardiner was the result of a microburst/straight line winds, and not a tornado. The area had been under a Tornado Watch on Friday when the severe weather hit the area. Heavy damage was reported to trees in the vicinity, prompting Ulster County Emergency Services Department Director Steven Peterson to contact the NWS service to investigate. Winds of 90 to 100 mph were reported near Gardiner at the time the storm hit.
