Kurt Busch, 2004 NASCAR top series champion has been suspended from NASCAR events, as reported by CNN.

The suspension, comes after a judge determined that Busch committed an act against his former girlfriend, Patricia Driscoll. Busch's lawyer released a statement:

"We assure everyone, including NASCAR, that this action against Mr. Busch will turn out to be a travesty of justice, apparent to all, as this story continues to unfold."

Busch plans to immediately appeal NASCAR's decision to suspend him. NASCAR's Executive Vice President, said that NASCAR will expedite any appeal, and added "NASCAR has made it very clear to our entire membership ... that any actions of abuse will not be tolerated," reported by CNN.

According to Fox News, Busch's former girlfriend Patricia Driscoll said following the suspension announcement:

No one is above the law. I'm very encouraged that NASCAR is taking steps to recognize that domestic violence is a serious issue, and I hope that we see them develop a very clear policy on it.
