Police saved the life a 41-year-old man who was found unresponsive on a Dutchess County street.

On Wednesday around 12:30 p.m., the Village of Wappingers Falls Police Department responded to the area of Andrews Place for a report of a man down for an unknown reason.

Two officers arrived on scene and found a 41-year-old unresponsive, with labored breathing, lying on his back on the ground, police say.

Police believe the man was overdosing. Narcan, a drug proven to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, was administered through the man's nose, but didn't have any impact, officials say.

A second dose of Narcan was administered and the man slowly regained regular breathing habits and color and soon became conscious and alert, according to the Village of Wappingers Falls Police Department.

Paramedics arrived on scene and took over care of the man. He was then taken to Vassar Brothers Hospital for further care.
