Another day, and another new phone scam.

The New York State Tax Department is warning everyone that scammers have found a new tactic and it involves the tax department's own phone numbers.

According to WIVT/WBGH Binghamton News 34, if you receive any call from either (518) 457-5181 or (518) 457-0578, don't bothering answering.

So, what's going on?

According to the department, the person or persons behind this are using the numbers to look for payments on reloadable debit cards, such as iTunes and so forth.

The NYS Tax Department said that they never uses those numbers for any outgoing calls.

New York State Commissioner of Taxation and Finance Jerry Boone said that every New Yorker should remain vigilant for signs of phone scams.

If you're uncertain about any incoming calls, you can always try (518) 457-5434 for more information.
