In a strange story...New York woke up to quite the surprise Tuesday morning as two American flags that flew atop the Brooklyn Bridge, were somehow mysteriously covered with white flags. Now authorities are looking for answers.

Police say that they have surveillance video of about four or five people walking on the bridge at around 3:00 am, Tuesday morning. At around 3:30 that same morning, the lights around the American flags flickered and then went out. Construction workers later noticed the white flags around 5:30 am, however no one has been able to figure out why they're there. According to reports, the American flags had been bleached and large aluminum tins had been tied to the lights around the flags.

The NYPD is investigating the security breach, though as of now they don't feel there are any ties to terrorism. Some have speculated that the white flags, which are often associated as a symbol of surrender, are some form of protest. Some thought that it was perhaps a movie shoot, or even some sort artistic project or statement.
