My Lost Treasure: Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard

Guys names is the current theme on My Lost Treasure.  Today we have two guys singing about two guys.  It is one of my favorites, and I have been lucky to see Willie Nelson do it live.  Sadly, Merle Haggard passed away a few months ago.

I never knew much about the song, just that I really liked it.  Then I saw a documentary about the late songwriter Townes Van Zandt.  Even though he wrote many songs, this was the big one for him.  Townes lived a pretty tough life.  The documentary made me love the song even more.  A lot of people might be surprised by my choice for today's lost treasure, but those who know me well won't be surprised at all.  I love both Willie and Merle.

Tomorrow is the anniversary of Jerry Garcia's death.  Even though we have played a few from The Grateful Dead during this theme, I have another one lined up to celebrate Jerry's life.
