My Lost Treasure: Don McLean

Our new theme on My Lost Treasure is inspired by The Letter Game from The Boris and Robyn Show. We are doing a week of songs that begin with the letter A, the a week of B songs, then C, and so on and so on. We are on the As right now. Today's suggestion came from Dan in Poughkeepsie.

This song was really something when it first came out. It was long, it was musically and lyrically great, it was a big hit, and my friends and I knew every word. Funny how we could not remember what we learned in school, but we could remember every word to a song that was eight minutes and change. And it has stood the test of time. I was in a bar a couple of years ago, and the band started playing American Pie. Everybody in the bar was singing whether they were 25 years old or 60.  It's just one of those songs.
