When I was a little girl, I never went to a county fair.  My parents took us to some great amusement parks, lots of vacations, and some local carnivals, but never to the county fair.  When I became a teenager and my friends and I started to drive, we always went to the Orange County Fair.  I grew up in Orange County, so that's where we went.  And it never seemed to change.  Same booths, same rides, same food attractions every year.

I started going to the Dutchess County Fair as an adult.  Mostly because we started doing live broadcasts from there.  I did my midday show live from the fair for close to a decade.  I loved the early mornings before the fair officially opened.  There was always excitement in the air about what the day would bring.   Then we would all stand for the national anthem, and the magic would begin.   I made so many friends through the years.  There is Rich, who always brought me tomato salads made from fresh, local tomatoes.  The nut guy with the best hot sugar glazed pecans I have ever had.  The Dancing Bear hippie tent, the 4H milkshakes, the baby pigs and cows.  And so much great food.  At night, it all lights up like dream like fantasy land.

I sure have spent a lot of fun hours at the fair.  This Saturday, Boris and I will be there raising money for Alex's Lemonade Stand.  Stop by, say hello, and make a donation if you can.  We will have special t-shirts you can buy for the cause.  Oh yeah, that's another one of my favorite things about being at the fair.  Getting to meet you.
