Police released more information regarding the Hudson Valley woman who is accused of killing her mother.

Around 1:45 p.m. Saturday, Ellenville Police received a call from Sherre Gilbert asking authorities to check on her mother, Mari Gilbert, at 9 Warren Street. Arriving officers noticed Mari’s car in the driveway.

Officers then tried to make contact with anyone inside the apartment, but didn't get an answer. Police soon spotted what appeared to be a body on the floor.

Police entered the building and allegedly found 27-year-old Sarra Elizabeth Gilbert, of Ellenville in the kitchen area with blood on her clothing.

An autopsy was conducted Monday on Mari Gilbert, 52, and the official cause of death was listed as homicide, due to multiple stab wounds.

Police have recovered what they believe to be the murder weapon.

The investigation is continuing, officials say.

According to the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office, Sarra was indicted by a grand jury in May for aggravated cruelty to animals and endangering the welfare of a child over accusations she intentionally drowned a puppy.
