Today (Feb. 20) we remember Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain on what would have been his 50th birthday. Cobain took his life back in April of 1994 at the age of 27.

Kurt Cobain formed Nirvana in 1987 with bassist Krist Novoselic out of Aberdeen, Washington.  drummer Dave Grohl would eventually join the fold and Nirvana would become one of the most influential rock bands of the Seattle grunge era. In 2014, Nirvana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Dave Grohl and Courtney Love accepting the honors. Nirvana found major success with the release of their second album Nevermind in 1991 and it would go on to sell over 30 million copies worldwide making it one of the best selling albums of all time. The album featured their most successful single, “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. Great memories in the early 90’s as a kid in junior high when Nevermind was released, a time when everyone started wearing combat boots and flannel shirts. Let's crank up some Nirvana today in memory of Kurt on his 50th!
