Update, 4:15PM: This article was updated with information from the New York Department of Environmental Conservation.

Zula, the missing Palenville zebra, was found dead earlier this morning.

News spread this weekend that there was a zebra loose in the Hudson Valley. Of course, this isn't typical headline one would read here in the Hudson Valley so it caught the eyes of many. The 5-month-old zebra took off while her owner Richard Myer of the Bailiwick Animal Park in Catskill was feeding her.

Zula died after a fall from a steep cliff in the Kaaterskill Clove section of the Kaaterskill Wild Forest Preserve, according to the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). DEC environmental conservation officers discovered Zula's body near Rt. 23A between Palenville and Haines Falls. Myer, DEC forest rangers and environmental conservation officers and New York State Trooper went to the scene after the 200-pound zebra was discovered.

Zula's owner, Richard, joined our sister station WPDH this morning to talk about the efforts of the community and gave us updates on Zula sightings. Because of the unique nature of this situation many were sharing Zula's photo and doing everything they could to help bring her home.

Our thoughts are with Richard Myer and his family at this time.
