The Times Herald is reporting that an elderly man who went missing Sunday afternoon in Forestburgh was found later that night by Sullivan County rescuers.

The unidentified 78 year-old man did not return home from his Sunday afternoon walk near the Hartwood Club part of town. This prompted a call to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office had some extra help from the Forestburgh Fire Department, New York state DEC forest rangers, DEC police dog and the Sullivan County Wildland Search and Rescue Team.

The man was found around 9 p.m. Sunday night, sitting in the woods.

He told rescuers he was simply waiting for a friend.

The unidentified man was said to be in good physical condition and his home with his family.
