A Middletown woman was arrested on charges of assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

State Police say an investigation revealed that 39-year-old Georjina Marquez, of Middletown, struck a child younger than 16-years-old with an object that was deemed to be a dangerous instrument.

The child was physically injured, police say.

The incident was reported to the New York State Child Abuse Hotline. The investigation was conducted in conjunction with the Orange County Department of Social Services - Child Protective Services.

Marquez was charged with 2nd-degree assault, a class D felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Marquez was arraigned at Town of Wallkill Court and remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $2500.00 cash bail or $7500.00 secured bond. She is due back in court on March 22.

A restraining order was issued on behalf of the victim.
