A dog has been shot and killed on North Street in Middletown by a police officer.

Police say they had no choice but to shoot.

Time Warner News says that police received a call about a dog that was acting aggressive and bit a pedestrian. Once on the scene, police located the dog which was on a leash. The dog's leash was then secured in the door of the police car.

While officers were waiting for animal control to arrive, the dog got loose from the door and began to attack one of the officers. That is when police say they had no choice but to shoot. The dog later died from the gunshot wounds.

One person at the scene of the incident was treated for injuries from the dog. Police are still looking for the animal's owner.
