Service was halted on Metro North this morning after a train struck a large tree.

The incident happened just north of Peekskill early Friday morning. Metro North reports that the crash occurred before the early morning commute, with commuters being instructed to take alternate transportation to the city.

Travelers were told to take the Harlem line instead. Metro North tickets were being honored for travel to Croton Harmon, Cortlandt , Peekskill or to Southeast on the Harlem line for train service south.

Just before 6am, Metro North announced that service was back up, but that trains would be running late throughout the morning because of the earlier shut down. Delays of at least 15 minutes are being reported right now, we will keep you updated as the morning commute progresses.
