Governor Cuomo's office has announced that road and bridge construction projects on the New York State Thruway have been suspended for Memorial Day Weekend. The suspension goes into affect at 6am Friday May 27th and will conclude Tuesday the 31st at 6am.

It's possible you'll see some work continue for emergency repairs. Governor Cuomo had this to say about the suspension.

Memorial Day Weekend is one of the busiest travel times of the year and we are taking every step we can to minimize delays and disruptions on New York's roadways. These actions put drivers first and will help New Yorkers get where they need to go in less time and with less aggravation this holiday weekend.

According to AAA, 38 million people will be travelling more than 50 miles from home this weekend, 34 million by car. Highways are expected to see an increase in traffic over last year as a result of lower fuel prices.

For anyone hitting the road in New York State this weekend, be sure to check 511NY for information on road condidtions. You can call 511, visit 511NY.org or download the app from iTunes or Google Play.
