Before you head to a Memorial Day picnic or party, take a moment to remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty for our country. Many towns, villages, and communities throughout the Hudson Valley will have observances this weekend.

Here are just a few of the many events planned, with links to find even more. Thank you to those men and women who sacrificed so much to protect our country and our way of life. Have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend.

Dutchess County

Thursday, May 25; 2: A ceremony will be held at the Castle Point VA Hospital in the River Memorial Garden.
Thursday, May 25; 7 am: A Memorial Day ceremony and light breakfast will be held at John J High School on Rt. 52 in Hopewell Junction. Pre-registration is required, call 897-6700 ext. 30043
Friday, May 26; 7 pm: A USO show will be presented at the FDR Presidential Library, Route 9 in Hyde Park. Then on Saturday and Sunday, May 27 & 28, see a WWII Encampment and military displays on the grounds of the FDR Presidential Library.
Sunday, May 28; 11:30: Parade and Ceremony in Milan at the Town hall on Route 199, hosted by the Town of Milan Veterans
Sunday, May 28; 2 pm. Memorial Day ceremony at the Soldier & Sailor Fountain on South Ave, hosted by the City of Poughkeepsie and American Legion Lafayette Post #37.
Sunday, May 28; 8 pm. Illumination of the Walkway. Join your neighbors at the Flag Pole in the center of the Walkway Over the Hudson for a sunset vigil. Bring flashlights, glow sticks or other non-flammable items to “Illuminate” at dusk.
Sunday, May 28; 12:30: Ceremony dedication in Rhinebeck at the Doughboy Memorial, hosted by the American Legion Post #429.
Monday, May 29:
Parades will be held in the following communities throughout Dutchess County

9 am: Parade and Ceremony in Stanford from Grange Hall to Bangall Monument
9 am: Parade and Ceremony in Wingdale at JH Ketchem Firehouse
9:30 am: Parade and Ceremony in Pawling at Utter Brothers Memorial Drive to Veterans Memorial Plaza.
10 am: Parade and Ceremony in Red Hook from the High School to Memorial Square Park.
10 am: Parade and Ceremony and BBQ in the Town of Beekman at the Town Hall and Fire Department.
10 am: Parade in the Town of North East at Veterans Park to Main Street
10 am: The Hyde Park Memorial Day Parade will step off from the Roosevelt Cinemas and head north on Route 9. Everyone is encouraged to remain at Town Hall for the Memorial services by the American Legion immediately following the parade. You are also invited to attend the ceremony at the FDR & Eleanor Roosevelt grave sites.
10 am: Parade and Ceremony in Millbrook at Franklin Avenue and Tribute Park
10:30 am: Parade in Pine Plains at Town Clock Memorial at South Main Street
10:30 am: Parade and Ceremony in the Town of Rhinebeck from fairgrounds through the village to Rhinebeck Ceremony
10:45 am: Parade and ceremony in East Fishkill at the East Fishkill Community Center.
1 pm: The annual Memorial Day Parade and Memorial Service in the village of Fishkill. The Parade will step off from Main Street and Broad Street.

Orange County

Sunday, May 28: The Annual Memorial Day Ceremony, presented by the Town of Montgomery and Patriotic Veterans Roundtable (AmVets, VFW, American Legion of Maybrook, Montgomery and Walden) at the Town Government Center 110 Bracken Road in Montgomery. Parade steps off at 2 pm.

Sunday, May 28: Town of Newburgh will hold a Memorial Day ceremony at 10 am at the Town Hall, then join the community for the Memorial Day Parade at 1 pm from the American Legion and ends at Algonquin Park.

Sunday, May 28: Annual Memorial Day Parade in Monroe. The parade begins at 1:30 pm, starting at Smith’s Clove Park, continuing along Route 17 M and ending at the Monroe Cemetery.

Monday, May 29: 11:30-12:30. The Annual Memorial Day Parade in the Town of Tuxedo begins at the Tuxedo Public School grounds and ends at the Veterans Memorial Wall. Followed by closing ceremonies on the front lawn of Saint Mary’s Church. Spectators can sit anywhere along Route 17 to watch the parade. This event is sponsored by local American Legion Post 293.

Ulster County

Monday, May 29, 1 pm.  Kingston’s Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade begins at 1 pm on hill in front of City Hall, 420 Broadway The parade will step off around 1:45 and will march to Dietz Stadium.

Tuesday, May 30: The New Paltz Memorial Day parade will kick off at 6 pm at Main St and N Manheim, and will proceed down Main street to Peace Park, organized by the New Paltz VFW chapter.

Sullivan County

Monday, May 29, 9 am: Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony at the Veteran's Triangle in Forestburgh. Refreshments will follow at the Fireman's Pavilion.

Monday, May 29, 9 am: Memorial Day Parade and services in the Town of Mamakating at the Shawanga Mountains VFW Post 4947.

Monday, May 29, 9 am: 133rd Annual Memorial Day Parade and Services at Fremont Center. Parade will end at the baseball field, where refreshments will be served throughout the day.

Monday, May 29, 9 am: Memorial Day Services at the Sylvan Liebla American Legion Post 1363 in Eldred.

Monday, May 29:  Memorial Day Parade in Roscoe will begin at 10 am followed by the ceremony at the Roscoe Fire House. All are welcome to attend.

Monday, May 29: The Monticello Memorial Day Service will begin at 10:30 am at the County Government Center. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony at the Monticello Elks Lodge.

Monday, May 29, 1 pm: Memorial Day Parade in Wurtsboro, hosted by the American Legion Post 1266. Services will be held after the parade at the Veterans' Park on Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro.
