There is one thing in common with all three of this week's new releases (besides being released on Halloween). This thing is that they are all thrillers, go figure. AND the one not based off of a novel looks to be pretty good. I guess it is true, the book is always better.

Starting with Horns, the one on the top of my mind because the protagonist turns out to be a pretty sweet rapper. Daniel Radcliffe stars in this supernatural thriller based on a novel by Joe Hill. Radcliffe's character, Ig Perrish is the top suspect in the brutal rape and murder of his girlfriend until one morning he wakes up hungover with horns growing on his head. (Yeah, I know). These horns have a purpose though, these horns have magical powers that force people to confesses their sins when they are around them. (Yeah, I know). Good thing for Perrish that people start confessing their sins to him, that way he may find the true murder of his girlfriend. Rotten Tomatoes gives this a 55% because many critics say the movie tried to fit into too many genres at once; thriller, dark comedy, coming-of-age story, romance and more.

Next, the second book, a world wide best seller from S.J. Watson, Before I Go to Sleep. It stars Nicole Kidman who wakes up every morning with no memory due to an accident. Hmm, kind of sounds like Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore romantic-comedy 50 First Dates to me. Once she starts learning new truths she then questions everything she knows, including those closest to her. With a 53% on Rotten Tomatoes, I'd just go back to watch 50 First Dates.

Lastly, Nightcrawler. Jake Gyllenhaal is Lou Bloom, a man who finds his way into the fast paced world of freelance L.A. night-time crime journalism. Bloom finds a crew and starts his journey into the dangerous world of crime reporting while following police sirens. The pain of victims is money in the Nightcrawlers pockets. 90% on Rotten Tomatoes brings this movie right to the top for this weekend. Gyllenhaal is said to have a spectacular performance.

Check out the trailers below and as always, until next week, we'll MEAT at the movies.
