Hudson Valley News Network is reporting that a routine traffic stop uncovered a significant number of license suspensions. New York State Police in New Paltz made the stop on I-87 recently and discovered the driver had quite a few issues with his license.

According to the police, the driver of the vehicle, Winford D. Newson, 50 of Hempstead, NY was found to have 39 suspensions on his New York State driver’s license.  He was arrested for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st Degree. According to Find Law, an individual can be charged with the offense of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the first degree if he/she is operating a motor vehicle while such person has in effect ten or more suspensions, imposed on at least ten separate dates for failure to answer, appear or pay a fine. If he is found guilty, this charge carries the sentence of a class E felony.

Mr. Newson was arraigned at a Town of New Paltz Court and was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
